Dr. Joshua D. Feder, M.D.
President, Positive Development of California; National Chief Medical Advisor and Medical Director
As the Medical Director for Positive Development, Dr. Joshua D. Feder, M.D., leads the overall care and clinical practice and participates in processes to ensure the appropriateness and quality of all aspects of medical care. With more than three decades of experience, Dr. Feder is board-certified in general psychiatry as well as child and adolescent psychiatry. He enjoys getting to know his patients and helping them resolve mental health and behavioral issues, ultimately improving their wellness and quality of life.
With a deep understanding of a wide range of mental health disorders, Dr. Feder creates customized treatment plans for each individual patient, combining medicine, therapy, and lifestyle modifications.
He takes a special interest in helping children and families living with autism and works with caregivers, schools, and other medical providers to ensure the child has everything they need to succeed. As the medical director at SymPlay, he develops technology that supports social communication, which is used in homes, doctors’ offices, and schools across the country.
Dr. Feder earned his undergraduate degree at Boston University before going on to complete his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He served his internship and psychiatry residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Dr. Feder is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and has been awarded a wide range of accolades and awards for both his medical practice and service in the United States Navy.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Feder recently authored the highly acclaimed Child Medication Fact Book for Psychiatric Practice and serves as Editor-in-Chief at Carlat Child Psychiatry Report. He actively volunteers in communities affected by armed conflict, including the Middle East, Northern Ireland, the Balkans, and Southeast Asia. Dr. Feder also teaches at the Fielding Graduate University School of Leadership Studies in the Infant and Early Childhood Development Ph.D. program, and at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry.
