Work that changes lives. A career that changes yours.

Positive Development is the leading provider of developmental care and is continually expanding to meet the needs of as many families as possible. Our dedicated and compassionate professionals work closely with our clients and we’re always seeking new, qualified individuals to join our team.

Are you a good fit to become a Developmental Paraprofessional (DPP)?

Let’s figure it out together!
What are we looking for?

We’re looking for individuals with a demonstrated and genuine interest in  working with neurodivergent and autistic children. As a frontline member of our care team, your role will focus on fostering positive interactions through play-based therapy.  You’ll do so with clients in their homes and sometimes in our centers. Our most successful team members are patient, empathetic, agreeable and flexible and have a keen awareness of children’s needs. They are also mature and able to navigate challenging emotions. If you’re excited to make a meaningful impact, we want to hear from you.

What type of experience is required?

We look for experience with children, and a bachelor’s degree in a related field (varies by geography). Most of our team members are former or current counselors, childcare specialists, special education teachers, education paraprofessionals, direct support professionals, personal caregivers, or behavior technicians.

That being said, we understand that not everyone has the same experience. If you have a career interest in child development, are 18+ years of age, have or are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with access to reliable transportation, send your resume in!

What type of person best succeeds at this job?

You should really enjoy interacting with children, specifically one-on-one, and more specifically, children with autism.  If not, this isn’t a good idea for anybody (call us honest!).  Additionally, you should exhibit patience and empathy towards children, who are well deserving of such.

What to expect

Our interview process

Step 1: Video Interview

In our introductory interview, we’ll ask you a series of questions about your availability, location and a few other logistical items and make certain you are a good match for our clients currently waiting for service.  We’ll then ask you about your particular sklls and experience, as well as test how you handle potential tense situations and emotional challenges.  We’ll ask about your communication skills.  We’d also like to hear about your interest in children as well as any knowledge you have regarding developmental approaches to autism care.  Then we’ll tell you more about the job itself, making sure you understand that it is an active, hands-on role.  We’ll end by running you through a few case-based questions, “tell me about a time when you…” or “what would you do in this situation?”

We love questions and are happy to share. Feel free to ask us about the job, the team, the culture, the history of our organization—or anything you want! This interview is conducted live via video. Please be in a place where you can join on-camera.

  • Length of interview: 30 minutes
  • What to wear: Business casual
  • Interviewer: Member of our Recruiting Team
Step 2: Clinical Interview

For those who pass our first round, a clinical interview is the next step.  A member of our frontline care team will conduct a second interview to test for personality fit with our clients and cohesion with the local team.  They will ask additional questions about your experience, skills and why you are interested in this job. They will also run you through a few more cases, to test how you would handle and react to different real-life situations that occur on the job.

This interview is also conducted live via video.

  • Length of interview: 30 minutes
  • What to wear: Business casual
  • Interviewer: Member of our Clinical Team
Step 3: Decision

We value your time and interest in our organization, therefore, we are committed to communicating all decisions directly to candidates within 24-48 hours of your completed interview. This part of the process is detail oriented so feel free to take notes (although everything will be provided in writing following the offer call). The Recruiter will sign you up for orientation, the New Hire Training (NHT) course, discuss your offer details, and answer any questions you may have.

  • Length of interview: 20 minutes
  • What to wear: Business casual
  • Interviewer: The Recruiter who interviewed you
Step 4: Onboarding and Training

Our onboarding begins immediately.  We will send you a link to our internal HRIS, Rippling.  The system will guide you through account registration, including all required paperwork, as well as provide information about any necessary background checks, health testing (sometimes a TB test is required) and fingerprinting.  Once you accept our offer, you’ll be enrolled in a training cohort.  You will receive further communication from us, including details about your training schedule and information regarding your official start date.  You will be given full access to the training materials on your first day. You can expect to be placed into a training cohort within 1-2 weeks of signing your offer.

Step 5: Match with Families

The final step in our process is to match you with a client! This happens toward the end of training, after all requirements for the onboarding process have been completed. You will be asked to fill out a form in the PD app, indicating your availability for scheduling as well as certain criteria to ensure a good “fit”. Our matching process is two-way; we ask clients about their criteria and strive to connect like-minded folks. You should expect to be matched to a family within 2 weeks of completing training.
